Testing and Certification Basis

The certification content and procedures are defined in a specific European certification program, which was developed in collaboration with the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation (ESTIF), the CEN (European Committee for Standardization) and other European certification bodies.

The testing standards for certification and the issuance of the Solar KEYMARK in combination with the "DIN-Geprüft" certification mark are based on the following European standards:

  • DIN EN ISO 9806 "Solar energy - Solar thermal collectors - Test methods"
  • DIN EN 12975 "Thermal solar systems and components - Collectors - Part 1: General requirements"
  • DIN EN 12976-1 and DIN EN 12976-2 "Thermal solar systems and components - Factory made systems"
    • "Part 1: General requirements"
    • "Part 2: Test methods"

The Solar KEYMARK certificate is valid for five years and can be extended for an additional five years. The prerequisite for renewal is passing the annual inspections (Factory Inspection) and the biennial product testing (Physical Inspection). Upon successful certification, you can label your products with the Solar KEYMARK in combination with the "DIN-Geprüft" mark.

Testing and Certification

For the awarding of the Solar KEYMARK, DIN CERTCO conducts testing and monitoring processes supported by recognized independent testing institutes. In addition to product testing, on-site production control is audited to ensure consistent quality. After successful certification, the quality is verified through annual surveillance audits.

2. How long is the Solar KEYMARK certificate valid?

The KEYMARK certificate is valid for five years. If the results of the factory inspection and physical inspection are positive, the certificate can be extended by another five years.

A second extension is only possible after another type inspection. If the test results are positive, you can apply for certification extension to receive a new certificate.

3. If you would like to obtain the Solar KEYMARK for already certified products under your own name and registration number, you have the option to apply for an OBL Certificate (Own Brand Labelling) with DIN CERTCO. For this, we require the following documents from you:
