DIN-Geprüft Certification for Soil-Biodegradable Mulch Films
Mulch films are essential in agriculture and gardening, offering protection for plants, soil improvement, and yield enhancement. However, not all mulch films are equal. Traditional, non-biodegradable mulch films require collection after use, which can be labour- and cost-intensive. Soil-biodegradable mulch films present a convenient alternative, as they can be left in the soil after their service life, decomposing naturally.
To ensure these films degrade properly without harming the soil, certification based on EN 17033 is crucial. DIN CERTCO is currently the only certification body that conducts conformity assessments in line with this standard. We also certify mulch films and their materials according to the international standard ISO 23517.
Achieving our DIN-Geprüft Biodegradable in Soil certification necessitates providing detailed information and testing on:
• Biodegradation behaviour within a maximum of 24 months
• Material composition and chemical characterization
• Plant compatibility (ecotoxicity test)
• Earthworm toxicity test (acute or chronic)
• Nitrification inhibition test with soil microorganisms
• Infrared transmission spectrum
Especially for mulch films additionally:
• Dimensions, mechanical and optical properties
• Designation and marking of the product
