Information and regulations of the professional and trade associations

Apart from the directives and laws on the one hand and the standards on the other hand, the accident prevention regulations of the professional associations and their information brochures regulated the practical use of eye protection equipment. They contain criteria for use and recommendations that shall be adhered to by the employers and their employees.

These publications are also subject to constant amendment. Thus, for example, the absence of generally binding regulations and limit values for protection against optical radiation led to the introduction in 2003 of the accident prevention regulation BGV B9 "Artificial Optical Radiation".

This, however, is currently unavailable and/or no longer in force because a directive concerning protection against optical radiation is currently being prepared by the EU Commission. It is to be expected that the EU Commission will follow the recommendations of the ICNIRP.

It must be expected, therefore, that the limit values and the exposure values are going to change. Overall, the professional associations demand that safety glasses shall be made available and shall be worn if there is any potential danger for eye protection.
