Desiccant Bags
Desiccant bags protect sensitive goods against moisture during transportation and storage and can therefore prevent corrosion and the formation of mould.
Their absorbent character makes safe and high-quality desiccant bags an essential packaging resource for the national and international shipment of goods.
Use the DIN-Geprüft mark for desiccant bags to show your customers that you manufacture products of consistently high quality and have an internal production control system.
Basis of Certification and Testing
German standard DIN 55473 ‘Auxiliary means of packaging - Desiccant in bag’ describes the product features of high-quality desiccant bags. Further test and certification specifications also include the DIN CERTCO certification scheme, the applicable schedule of fees and the DIN CERTCO General Terms and Conditions.
DIN CERTCO annually inspects and monitors all certified production companies’ compliance with the requirements established in the standard.
As a retailer, you too can display your name alongside DIN-Geprüft desiccants if DIN CERCO has certified you as the holder of a sub-certificate. In this case, your storage facility will be inspected and independent sampling conducted. However, the overall scope of the inspection is smaller than that conducted for main certificate holders (manufacturers).
To award the certification mark, tests are conducted on the desiccant bag, the wrapping material and the multipack.
Testing and Assessment
The initial certification involves a production and storage facility inspection and independent sampling. The following tests will then be conducted by a DIN CERTCO-accredited test laboratory:
- pH value and electrical conductivity of the aqueous extract
- Water-soluble substance content
- Grain size
- Adsorption capacity
- Volume and mass
- Adsorption speed
- Dust permeability
- Bag strength
- Water vapor permeability of the multipack
- Number of desiccant bags per multipack
- Desiccant bag labeling
- Multipack labeling
An up-to-date list of all certificate holders is published on the DIN CERTCO homepage.
The certificate is valid for three years, after which it can be extended by the customer.
Monitoring is ensured through an annual production site and warehouse inspection and sampling activities.
During this inspection, the implementation of the standard and the quality assurance measures with regard to the production-related internal controls are monitored and inspected. The samples taken on site are tested by an independent DIN CERTCO-accredited test laboratory.
