Flexible mechanisms to achieve environmental targets are specified in the Kyoto Protocol. These include measures serving to reduce CO2 emissions.
The key to the success of such instruments is credibility, and that can be endorsed - by independent verification, for example. DIN CERTCO offers verification of CO2 reduction measures within the meaning of the Kyoto Protocol. The only drawback is that at present there is still no officially adopted and legally valid basis for such verification as the protocol has not yet been ratified by a sufficiently large number of countries, and many details remain to be settled.
We thus proceed on the basis of the documents of the secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) currently under discussion, and in this way seek to approximate as closely as possible the methodology that will ultimately be adopted.
