New approaches to certification in the environmental field
Environmental protection is today no longer regarded merely as a "mopping-up" activity to eliminate the adverse impacts of technology, but increasingly as a pro-active strategy that takes account of the ecological, economic and social aspects of a company's operations.
Since the Rio Conference in 1992 the concept of sustainable development can be heard everywhere. DIN CERTCO supports sustainable development by its innovative certification activities in the environmental field. By using biodegradable materials, for example, quasi-natural product life-cycles can be established. Flexible mechanisms aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions can also contribute to sustainable development, but these need to be of proven credibility, such as independent third-party testing can provide.
